After high praise from a teacher in a cooking class in high school, Jenny set her sights on becoming a pastry chef.  She started her baking career as a dishwasher at a small bakery in Hampton, NH. Jenny graduated high school at the age of 16, determined to pursue her dream. She earned a degree in Pastry Arts at Johnson and Wales Culinary School. From there, she moved overseas, cooking and traveling all over Europe before landing in New York City, where she worked for world-renowned chefs, Todd English and Bobby Flay.

The restaurant hours were long and the lifestyle strenuous for a young adult in the Big Apple. Jenny still loved the art of creating dessert but was feeling burnt out. After careful thought, she moved to Montreal to pursue a new career in art education - combining her passion for pastry arts with her love of working with people.

After 8 years as an art teacher, Jenny revisited her pastry expertise by baking for friends and family. Her loved ones all encouraged her to share this gift beyond her circle of friends. Jenny made a quick Instagram post and things grew fast! Lemon + Lavender became something she believed could evolve into something truly wonderful.

The uncertain times of COVID forced a pause on the home kitchen bakery operation and prompted the search for a new home.  During this search, Jenny met Mitch and they fell in love. They soon discovered that cooking together was their favorite thing to do! Jenny and Mitch moved to Buxton, Maine in 2022, finding a home with a kitchen capable of supporting the Lemon + Lavender relaunch. Mitch officially joined the team and has become an integral business member. With the added space, Lemon + Lavender has been able to expand with farmhouse bread, cookies, pop-tarts, and their new specialty item, focaccia. It became evident that Jenny and Mitch were an incredible team both in business and family.

Lemon + Lavender's Flavorful History

A PErsonal Note

Our favorite thing about food is the stories it tells, the conversations it starts, and the way it brings people together. Food provides life, but it nourishes beyond the physical body. Food brings comfort during sadness, celebrates joy, and allows people to have a shared experience. This love for food is the foundation of Lemon + Lavender.

Prior to our launch at the Kittery Farmers Market in June 2023, little did we know how tremendous the response would be! We have been blown away by the support of the Southern Maine and New Hampshire communities. In just a short amount of time, we’ve grown and are featured in six different stores. We feel beyond grateful for the outpouring of support from our customers. No one knows what the future holds, but we are certain that Lemon + Lavender will continue to be a dream come true for us!

Thank you,

Jenny + Mitch

Our Approach

It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story is what matters. It is the people we meet, and the joy our products bring that makes our lives feel full.

Dream IT

We are not sure when, where, or how we will land but we are dreaming, and growing and that is when the magic happens. One day, we want to run a brick-and-mortar storefront of our own.

Imagine IT

Our mantra is be clear, be confident, and don’t overthink it. The beauty of your story is that it’s going to continue to evolve and you can evolve with it. Our goal is to always make it feel right for right now.
